Montreal duo Majical Cloudz have announced their debut album, Impersonator which is set for release via Matador on 27 May in the UK. ‘Childhood’s End’ – first single to be drawn from the LP - heralds an intensification in both their sonic and lyrical influences.
Vocalist Devon Welsh has set out to recall disturbing memories and deliver dark themes in the most minimalist vessel possible throughout Impersonator. In this instance it’s producer Matthew Otto’s sparsely arranged beats and forlorn strings which provide the perfect space for Welsh’s opulent vocal to breathe naturally. Poignant electronic balladry has two new poster boys.
