Listen: Macajey – "Rrrumpus" [Premiere]
Estonia-via-California-based producer Macajey makes energy-infused, life-effusing electronica and we're happy to introduce you to his latest Where The Wild Things Are-inspired track, "Rrrumpus".
If you've ever wanted a soundtrack for flying, if indeed you can fly, then this is the song for you. If not, you can imagine what it might be like to duck and dive through islands of cloud on the backdrop of a blue sky when you listen to it. The bristling percussion gleams out with the galloping beat, providing the kinetic treadmill on which the shoegaze-esque washes of sound ride upon like a hang glilder on thermals.
Jeremy Macachor (Macajey's real name) shared with us the real inspiration behind the track:
"This is the last song I wrote for my album. I wanted to create a track that is what happens after Max's famous line 'Let the wild rumpus start!!!' from Where The Wild Things Are. It turned out quite different from what I had originally planned but that’s the beauty of music. It takes you where you might not expect to go if you let it."
You can certainly feel the intended energy here, fun bursting through the seams, but "Rrrumpus" is more delicate, less of a blunt instrument than the obvious tribal drums of wild rumpus; with its sparkle of syncopated guitar melodies overlapping, and the sunny javelins of synth sound rifling above the frenetic beat towards the end, Macajey's track mixes feeling and thought – a controlled explosion, but an explosion nonetheless.
It's taken from his upcoming album, Let's Go, out 24 March. You can pre-order it over at his Bandcamp.
