A big ‘ol Monday morning hat-tip to The Blue Walrus for flagging up new Turn First/Universal affiliate Leon Else and his melodramatic debut original piece, ‘Tomorrow Land (All Fall Down)’.
You can probably gather from the title, this ain’t no summer jam. Plaintive lyrics are delivered in a breathy thrum recalling British soul singers Jamie Woon and James Blake with even a faint trace of John Legend. Backed by xx-esque guitar tones and a blood-pumping padded kick beat, the Brixton native joins an ever-growing throng of gloomy, RnB-flecked singer-songwriters intent on soundtracking this summer’s less joyous moments.
