Listen: Leisure Cruise – Sailing
Firehorse’s Leah Siegel and producer Dave Hodge have banded together to form another throwback to the not-too-distant glory days of Swedish pop called Leisure Cruise.
Bright and breezy from the onset, ‘Sailing’ leans on Siegel’s effervescent warbling for the most part, but thunderous toms, fast-flowing synths and chattering guitars all twinkle as brightly in the backdrop. The chorus, ‘And to our surprise, we’re happy and free, on the crest of a wave is where I wanna be’, invigorates like a splash of cool aqua compared to the simmering, sun-drenched melody.
Scandinavian-flavoured pop is going through something of a purple patch right now with Swedes Postiljonen and Paris pair Champions League just two of the field’s prime movers, ‘Sailing’ suggests this New York-based duo are more than ready to join the pack.
