Young, masked rap talent Leikeli47 continues to play by her own rules on "My Ex is a Ho"
Leikeli47’s bold, unreserved lyrics roared she was going to ‘F**k this Summer Up’. Then, Jay Z crowned the fiery track as his #1 song and title track for his TIDAL playlist. Job done, right?
She's not stopping there. As media salivate for the mask to fall off and for the mystery to quickly unravel, it’s imperative for the NY-born rapper to continue playing by her own rules. These rules demand respect to the music she constructs without taking into consideration her sex, age nor the colour of her skin. The kind of considerations we should all be naturally ignoring anyways.
Our curiosity and her need to don a balaclava is a middle finger to those ugly prejudices that shadow the music industry, quietly suppressing minorities. The masked rapper has just dropped "My Ex is a Ho" it growls louder than any other track on her self-titled debut EP. As the chorus plays homage to basketball coaches, Dean Smith and John Wooden, the momentum builds with her concluding “I had to call a time out before they started shooting”.
The reality is this young rapper does not have to conceal her identity for her music to be taken seriously. Although, it would be best advised for her cheating ex- to wear a balaclava instead.
