Listen: Joe Acheson (Hidden Orchestra) – Archipelago Mixtape [Best Fit Premiere]
Last year Best Fit premiered a track off Hidden Orchestra’s wonderfully genius record Archipelago release and fell deeply for it. Formerly known as Joe Acheson Quartet, Hidden Orchestra fuse the worlds of jazz and classical with explorative sampling techniques and a cinematic take on instrument-based ambient electronic that is out of this world.
Today we are thrilled to premiere one of Hidden Orchestra’s notorious music library deep dives of a mix. This particular offering explores the themes of sleep deprivation and the wildest of dream collaborations; Kelpe with Thom Yorke, Floex with Maxi Jazz, Crunch with Kate Bush, Tinariwen and Guru with a heavy rhythm section, Ivor Cutler and Johnny Cash trading verses over Jan Johansson’s piano with added beats, Hauschka feat Bob Marley, Steve Reich with vocals from John Lennon, all pieced together through spoken word audio, live interviews, field recordings, reworks and Hidden Orchestra originals.
We actually don’t want to say too much, as the tracklist and mix really speak for themselves. This is what the dreams of a creative genius sorting life out in their sleep sounds like.
