Listen: Jeremiah Jae – Energetic
Brainfeeder-signed producer and rapper, most recently lending a hand to more than a few of the beats on Captain Murphy’s debut Duality mixtape, Jeremiah Jae released a selection of Beastie Boys edits in the form of a release he’s calling Black Castle - Beastie Boys Remixes, this week.
Keeping the trio’s original vocals intact and ensuring the nostalgia factor is at an all-time high, while infusing his own brand of psychedelic hip hop fury, Jeremiah Jae hit a homerun on this wildly original take on some very dear classics. On tracks like ‘Just A Test’, and ‘Hrd Way’, splatters of digitized effects, heavy hitting throwback beats and slightly drowned out Beastie lyrics intertwine with a variety of found sound samples ranging from erratic brass instruments to rolling drum patterns. On the track featured below, sparse, hollow clanks act as drums, while dark thudding beats hover and creep along distorted crunch– Jae’s take on ‘Intergalactic’, dubbed, ‘Energetic’. While on other tracks like ‘Alv’, ‘Electrfy’ and ‘Bl00d’, songs are derived from pronounced piano keys and high pitched effects dramatically draped across an empty plain, in which Beastie Boys rhymes are placed, almost haphazardly over top.
Overall, a playful take on some of music history’s favorite Beastie Boy cuts, reimagined in 2013. Do us a favor and download this completely free release now, you’re next ipod playlist will thank you.
