Listen: JAGAARA - "In The Dark" [Premiere]
London sister trio Jagaara are releasing their brilliant new single "In The Dark" on Record Store Day 2015, but you can hear it here first, premiering exclusively on Best Fit.
“In The Dark” is skeletal in every sense: the hi-hat and kick drum shamble into each other like clattering bones; its minimal guitar lines echo and repeat like a siren song; Jane’s vocals wander this icy landscape, her shadowy lyrics dangling heavy from the frame, telling the story of a love rotten and unrecognizable as the vibrant, pulsing thing it once was.
Mostly, the Edmonson sisters are masters of these ethereal elements, building them expertly to a cleansing, darkly catchy climax. But at times, as when Jane belts “if it wasn’t for this love/I wouldn’t be in the dark” in the chorus, they sound possessed; the practitioners are overtaken momentarily by the magic they’ve conjured. And we are all the better for it.
“In The Dark” will be released as a limited 7” on Record Store Day with a remix of “Heartbeats” by Edwin Congreave of Foals. The band says:
"We’ve always wanted our music on vinyl, and it's finally happened! It's so exciting to be a part of Record Store Day. We wrote 'In the Dark' all together, so the sentiment of the song resonates deeply with all three of us. We had an amazing time recording the track and we're so excited for people to hear it. We can't wait for our mini tour in May and for festival season to kick off! Itchy feet!!!"
