Listen: Honeyblood – “Kissing On You”
With the suaveness and drum-and-guitar structure of Deap Vally, and the sun-smooched garage rock of Best Coast, Glaswegian duo Honeyblood make music that’s fresh, thoughtful and above all exciting.
B-Side “Kissing On You” takes up from where “Bud” left off, with thrashing drums and syrupy guitars that, as their name suggests, are the musical equivalent of a queen bee bleeding nectar. Produced by Rory Atwell (of defunct Test Icicles), the track mixes sounds of bands he’s previously worked with (Palma Violets, Veronica Falls) to create summery garage rock with a sting in its tail.
The chorus is a belter, hearing Stina Tweeddale roar: ‘I don’t think we can ever stop/ ‘cos I don’t know how to turn you off’.
Let’s hope it’s the same with Honeyblood’s future recordings.
