Listen: H A R T E B E E S T – “Drums” [Premiere]
Straight from the best home studio on Guernsey, producer duo H A R T E B E E S T bring us “Drums,” premiering today on Best Fit.
With its simple kick-snare beat (“move our bodies to the drums”), shiny synths, and falsetto vocals (teased on previous single “death.” but taken to new heights here), it might be tempting to misinterpret H A R T B E E S T’s “Drums” as a sanguine dance track. Even the chorus seems to promise a good time: “we have the night of our lives”.
And make no mistake, it is a good time. Every note, in fact, seems meticulously placed for maximal enjoyment. Hazy guitars, made all the more effective by their scarcity, perfectly punctuate transitions. A breathy bridge builds anticipation for the final chorus. But there’s a tinge of melancholy here, a sense that the “night of our lives” is not tonight - that “Drums” is a something of a retelling, an ode to a time when one could be “young and reckless but…leave no trace”.
Here’s to tonight, whenever it is.
