Listen: Gambles – Far From Your Arms
You’d never know that New Yorker Gambles has been making his sparsely arranged, fiercely personal brand of lo-fi folk for less than a year. Such is the definition carved into ‘Far From Your Arms’, the first cut from Matthew Daniel Siskin’s similarly titled debut EP. Not a single note is wasted or out of context, simply because the poignant lyrics need nothing more than his straining, husky lilt and understated acoustic strums to convey the beating heart central to this courageously simple track. With the number of MOR acoustic singer-songwriters reaching the point of saturation a while ago; Gambles could well be the man to reignite our passion for the flagging movement.
The Far From Your Arms EP is out on 7 May via Siskin’s GMBLS imprint, under Secretly Canadian’s distribution remit.
