Listen: Freddie Dickson – Shut Us Down
If debut drop ‘Shut Us Down’ is anything to go by, Londoner Freddie Dickson is already well on his way to gathering the essential components we expect of our modern pop icons.
The expectation of our contemporary solo artists no longer starts and ends with looking hot and piling on the hooks; as Lana Del Rey and Frank Ocean will testify, we demand a degree of depth, sonically, aesthetically and emotionally. The first track taken from the 24-year-old Dickson’s forthcoming EP displays a remarkable command over the all important melodramatic narrative. His delicately wounded siren song strikes the perfect balance between wearied and enticing when marbled through slender guitar strokes, muted drum pad ripples and elongated, sprawling synth chords. With pretty much every box ticked and plaudits beginning to pour in from all angles; Dickson ought to be very proud of this first confident stride.
