Oh, to be what it sounds like being Fraser A. Gorman…mismatched clothing, unkempt hair, perpetual aw-shucks grin on your face, nonchalantly pursuing the girl.
Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Gorman is a cohort of wonderful, fellow-Aussie singer/songwriter Courtney Barnett and the Australia-based Milk! Records collective. Like Barnett, Gorman trades in mundane, tongue-in-cheek everyday tales delivered with infectious ease, though his sound is rooted in late-60s/early-70s country-rock.
Gorman’s latest single, “Book Of Love”, is a wholly unassuming shuffle, featuring gospel-tinged background vocals and wafting along atop a lazy slide guitar lead. When he sings that the object of his affection “fits me like a glove” why, one just can’t help feel that way about this very tune, broken in and comfortable as your favorite pair of socks.
“Book Of Love” is digitally available now at Milk!'s Bandcamp page on limited edition vinyl 1 December courtesy of Marathon Artists/House Anxiety Records.
