Listen: Francis And The Lights – ETC
‘ETC’ is the first new material we’ve heard from American songwriter, Francis And The Lights since groove-laden 2010 mini-album, It’ll Be Better.
Released via London boutique label, Good Years, ‘ETC’ replicates Francis Farewell’s work with Drake – he holds production credits on the Canadian rapper’s Thank Me Later LP – with its smooth piano-led verses billowing into a chorus of chintzy synth squirts and brittle percussive clicks and clacks. Francis’ vocal draws heavily on 90′s RnB singers with a hint of gaudy funk-pop – Prince in particular springs to mind – his sweet and hopeful drawls of, ’what will we say/and will we be happy‘ slowly peter away like the gentle awakening from a beautiful dream.
