Listen: Feeding People – Big Mother
Orange County upstarts Feeding People will release their second full length album, Island Universe, next week and the band have kindly offered a sneak preview of what we can expect in the form of ‘Big Mother’.
The track featured on their eponymous debut before being exposed to a wider audience through the impeccable musical taste of whiny ghost girl – sorry to ruin the twist – Violet Harmon in FX drama American Horror Story. The original three minutes of rough and ready fuzz rock has been condensed down to a cleaner but no less ferocious version lasting a little over a minute and a half. Despite the newly polished rhythm section, none of the sting has been taken from Jessie Jones’ guttural delivery; the nineteen year old channels the sweet innocent lilt of Billie Holiday one moment before paralysing you with her apocalyptic siren song the next. Add lashings of ear splitting snare and frenzied cymbals into the mix and you’re left with the blueprint for a bona fide psychedelic sludge rock hit: 5 Februarycan’t come quick enough.
