There’s an undeniable sort of “happier Ingmar Bergman” feel to FAMY’s new track, “Donkey”, which isn’t as doomedly obtuse a description as one might imagine.
Cinematic drums and synoptically ricocheting guitars confidently lift (but never bury!) lush, anthemic, stadium-ready vocals to the heights of identity-assured arena pop (the good kind).
There’s a clever playfulness to the band’s overall presentation, a playfulness which is also present in their work – though not overwhelmingly so. When a united sadness cracks a devastating grin, it often sounds exactly like this stand-out from FAMY’s upcoming 5-song EP (also named Donkey) – chaotic tambourine and all.
FAMY release the Donkey EP through Transgressive on 10 March. They play the following shows across London throughout February and March.
