Listen: Empress Of – Tristeza
-
One of the most interesting and strangely beautiful offerings you’ll hear all year, Double Denim’s Empress Of has debuted her most soul-wrenching track yet, ‘Tristeza’.
With breathy gushes of lyrics in both English and Spanish, Lorely Rodriguez whisks you away with her magnetic words, while warming synths give a worldly, Victorian-era feel to digital chimes and spine-tingling high octave melodies. From the word’s Latin roots, ultimately translating to mean, “sadness”, and coupled with layers of brooding synths and wispy vocals, ‘Tristeza’ evokes a moody feeling of discontent we take the utmost pleasure of wallowing in.
We hope Sophia Coppola is listening, as we think we just found the perfect addition to her next movie soundtrack.
