Listen: Edgar The Beatmaker – Feotus
Edgar The Beatmaker is the latest project from increasingly chameleonic South Londoner, Archy Marshall aka King Krule.
‘Feotus’ is drawn from Marshall’s freshly released collaborative EP Darkest Shades of Blue. Recorded with his mates and fellow hip-hop enthusiasts, the track juts out amid all others with that unmistakably gutsy, world-weary vocal of his layered over wispy piano sequences, trickling hi-hats and cyclical bass drum thuds.
It seems unlikely that this new alias represents a wholesale shedding of sonic skin a la Zoo Kid’s transition into King Krule. At the very least, Edgar The Beatmaker appears to offer Marshall an outlet to express a self-assessing air of futility sighing, “Money used to get me stressed, so depressed/but now I have it, it couldn’t mean anything less” at regular intervals throughout the choppy two minute piece.
