Listen: Dutch Uncles – Nometo (Field Music remix)
Dutch Uncles have given their Memphis Industries label mates and recent Mercury nominees Field Music free licence to pull apart ‘Nometo’, a stand out track from their acclaimed new album Out of Touch in the Wild. And what a fine job the brothers Brewis have done.
The almost too crisp indie pop sensibilities have been pared back somewhat as the iconic Sunderland outfit get to work untying the tangled synth bleeps and choppy percussion of the original; smoothing the more angular edges off with softly ticking breaks, spontaneous guitar squalls and glossy bass drips. These relationships don’t always work out but we’re secretly hoping ‘Nometo’ won’t be the last time these two super-intelligent art rock outsiders pool their talent.
