Listen: Dominique Young Unique – “Throw It Down”
Following her turn on their summer 2013 hit “Earthquake”, Tampa electro rapper Dominique Young Unique has released her debut single, “Throw it Down”, with Diplo and DJ Fresh returning the favour on production.
As a first official track it doesn’t veer wildly from what we’ve come to expect from this promising artist. She can spit like the best of them, and certainly deserves her spot amongst the likes of Nicki Minaj, Angel Haze and Azealia Banks. That said, it’s the production that allows this track to stand out.
The distorted, stuttering vocals are reminiscent of Diplo’s work with fellow female rapper M.I.A, while the floor-shaking screech of the riff suggests this will be dropped in packed clubs for months to come.
