Listen: DM Bones – Holdin' On 2
-
Kick off your weekend with some sexy hip hop beats turnt down…way down, by Aberdeen producer, DM Bones and his slurry track ‘Holdin’ On 2’.
In today’s world of humpty dumpty production techniques, in which producers make a career out of dissecting pop songs and putting them back together in their own special way, there is something to be said for creativity and restraint.
In the case of producer DM Bones, both skills shine through. One half of Northern Scotland’s production duo Bones & Money, and founding member of emerging bass label, Tuff Wax, producer Shaun Fowler craftily makes use of spaced out thuds of bass and crunchy bits of distortion to form the foundation of ‘Holdin’ On 2’. He then goes to work filing in the sparsity with fluid house rhythms and chant-like loops of R&B vocals. For DM Bones, less is more, lending to a much bigger sound in that late night, “keep the music” on kinda way.
