Listen: Deers - "Castigadas en el granero"
Deers are back, and they’re better (and bigger) than ever on surf/psych smash “Castigadas en el granero”.
A tight opening march does nothing to portend the unhinged ecstasy that follows: soon, a smooth, sliding guitar lead holds the melody over staccato acoustic strums. Despite adding pieces and production value, Deers have not sacrificed the delightful lo-fi elements that separate them from a pack of over-produced peers.
This sense of looseness provides the perfect backdrop for the wild, woozy vocal interplay of Carlotta Cosials and Anna Garcia Perrote, the centrepiece of a sound that has made Deers a band to watch in 2014 and beyond.
“Castigadas en el granero” is part of a forthcoming single recorded in Berlin and mixed by Diego García titled Barn due out November 3 on Lucky Number (UK) / Mom + Pop (US).
