Drawn from their forthcoming AA-side, ‘Vigilante’ is experimental pop duo, Deafkid’s stab at replicating the quirky, electro-tinged melodies that powered Alt-J to their Mercury win last year.
Flo Sauvaire and Chris Lockington were once touring members of Ghostpoet’s band so it’s no surprise that their new project soaks up some of the ‘Cash and Carry Me Home’ vocalist’s gloomy lyrical tendencies and fidgety instrumentals. ‘Vigilante’s rickety Gameboy bassline and tropically tumbling guitar riffs sway like palms caught between the breezy yet blue-sounding vocals and choppy percussion. Deafkid show that thoughtful pop can still be groovy as hell.
‘Vigilante’/‘Horns’ is penciled in for release via Tape Club Records on 15 July.
