Listen: Dave Depper recreates Paul McCartney's Ram
Dave Depper – a respected member of the thriving Portland scene that has seen him play alongside The Decemberists, Loch Lomond, Norfolk & Western and Blue Giant) – has skillfully recreated Paul McCartney’s landmark solo album Ram and is due to release it via City Slang on August 22. The tribute album, normally something that is saved for the cover mount CD of Mojo magazine, is a treachrous area to say the least. But, if Depper’s version of ‘Too Many People’ is anything to go by, this could be something worth investigating.
Explaining the reasoning behind the project, Depper explains “”I was in a rut, I’d played on and helped produce dozens of different records, but I’d had yet to follow through with completing anything of my own. I knew that I needed to do something – anything – to prove to myself that I was capable of finishing something that I’d started.”
The Ram Project was recorded over the course of one month, often working marathon 12-hour sessions at a time. Stream / download ‘Too Many People’ below.
