Listen: Dark Dark Dark – What I Needed [Best Fit Premiere]
Record Store Day brings together independent music in a pure and brilliantly nostalgic form; it is apt therefore that Dark Dark Dark release their latest single, covered in a wonderfully vintage hue, to coincide with the celebration.
‘What I Needed’ conjures romantic, slow-dance feelings with its arpeggio heavy progressions, splashing cymbals and neatly crunching guitar punctuation. It is such a tidy and deliberate bringing together of jazz-inspired sounds that builds to a crescendo of bluesy chromaticism and thick layers of harmony. Complete with Hammond solo, “oohs” and “aahs” and a perfectly pleasing final cadence, it is a perfectly professional piece of retro pop from the Minneapolis band. Roll back the years and gently sway along to this Best Fit Premiere below.
‘What I Needed’ is taken from Dark Dark Dark’s Record Store Day 10″ EP of the same name. Available 20th April in all good record stores.
Dark Dark Dark play All Tomorrow’s Parties festival at Camber Sands on 10 May followed by an appearance at Field Day on 25 May.
