It’s been almost six months since Curb exploded onto their local scene, and with the release of new track “So High,” the four-piece are showcasing exactly why the rest of the country is about to stand up and pay attention.
Right from the stripped-back, spaced-out intro, Curb will have you hooked. Bubbling riffs and a meandering bassline build to a chorus that somehow manages to be both chaotic yet still completely under the band’s control. If that’s not mastery, then what else is?
Frontman Tom O’Ryan’s vocals are sublime, drawing you deeper and deeper into the group’s rich tapestry of swirling refrains and lingering lyrics. With a catchy chorus of only two words, and more hooks than you’d find at a pirate convention, you’ll be hard pressed to get this song out of your head. And that’s exactly how it should be.
As O’Ryan croons in the song, “you think you know what’s going on” – if you’re listening to this track, chances are you’re probably right.
Curb are set to support Dumb at a number of their upcoming dates, starting at the Hare & Hounds in Birmingham on 21 February.
