New Jersey duo Crozet have somehow flown (criminally) under our radar until now, but that has all changed upon hearing their latest release “Hold My Weight”. The single—part of a compilation released in December through Synth Records—is a blast from future past, combining retro elements and modern touches for a finished product that would feel equally at home on a John Hughes soundtrack as on a Jersey Live stage.
Singer John Helmuth’s vocals stay low in the mix throughout behind layers of clean, propulsive drums. A roiling synth line becomes almost percussive, keeping the melody and allowing a reverb-tinged guitar (the real star of this song, with loving respect to all other instruments) to soak through in vital moments.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be making up for lost time. *hits repeat*
