Texan multi-instrumentalist Conner Youngblood has been hard at work, fine-tuning his ambient melange of washed-out lo-fi and syrup infused pop; ‘Vegas’ is the fruit of his labours and easily his most compassionate record to date.
Crackling guitars and thunderclap drumbeats add kindling to the fire burning quietly in Youngblood’s woebegone vocal tones. The recent Yale graduate shuns Sin City’s neon lights and mindless frivolities, instead capturing that sense of laidback despondency we’re often paralysed by as summer draws to a close. If ever the world required a champion of thinking man’s lo-fi, Conner Youngblood has our vote nailed down.
