Listen: Champions League – My Dears [Premiere]
After kickstarting the summer months with two grandiose explosions of Balearic wonderment, Parisian duo Champions League return with an all new song – ‘My Dears’, the follow up to the effervescent ‘In Case You Needed Reassurance’ and epic pop of ‘Paris Is Our Playground’.
Staying true to the group’s internal lineage with underground Sweden, ‘My Dears’ places itself musically against Gothenburg titans The Tough Alliance – specifically Escaping Your Ambitions, their 2006 foray into more ambient textures. However, Champions League’s masterstroke so far has been avoiding pastiche, their influences are cleverly harnessed together with a very French sound and attitude. The wide-eyed innocence of the music completely empowered by vocalist Benjamin Cholet’s cocksure Parisian drawl in turn making you wonder if he wants to fight you or fuck you.
‘My Dears’ is available as a free download via Champions League SoundCloud page. Be sure to check out their aforementioned earlier works here and here.
