One of the very few British guitar bands with their sights set firmly on the bombast and arena-sized hooks of Coldplay et al that don’t make me want to poke my eyes out with hot pins (hello Thirteen Senses – remember them??), Brighton’s Cave Painting release their debut full-length Votive Life through Third Rock Recordings on September 24.
As a welcome taster, the slow-burning ‘Light Show’ is being given away as a free download for all. Restraint is key with music as knowingly grandiose as this – the urge to over produce with unnecessary flourishes and studio wizardry can leave a sour taste in the mouth. And, even with a stirring string section added to the mix towards the climax, Cave Painting play it straight. Success in simplicity, for want of a better phrase. Grab it below.
