What have gothy twopiece Carousels been doing since last year’s blog bro-down that was East London’s Binnacle festival, you ask? Well, recruiting new members, it seems.
The band experienced a steep ascent late last summer, posting two tracks on Soundcloud and netting a NME Radar piece in just weeks. But it all went a bit quiet then. Although showing signs of promise, their debut live outing at the aforementioned “micro-fest” at the Old Blue Last was wracked with nerves.
They quite simply weren’t ready, but now it seems they are. Fleshing out and gaining three new members if the above press shot is anything to go by, this new track shows a likewise growth in their sound. Rather than hiding in the static and feedback any longer, the song features perhaps the best ragged guitar solo in recent memory. Or at least for all those with extremely short attention spans, for whom St Vincent’s ‘Cruel’ is a distant memory.
Check out a self-proclaimed “demo” (do those still exist anymore?!) version of ‘Stay With Me’.
