Bass-playing Grizzly Bear Chris Taylor’s debut solo album under the name CANT, Dreams Come True is set for release next month on Taylor’s own Terrible Records in the US and WARP in the UK. The track ‘Believe’, from the forthcoming album, was unveiled today.
‘Believe’ is a sultry kind of late-summer jam, more consciously groove-orientated that any Grizzly Bear material thanks to the prominence of the bass line and so-laid-back-it’s-practically-supine drum beat.
The slick and showy bass licks add some real interest to this track – giving it momentum and providing bursts of energy and power that both cut through, and support the sweeping, ethereal wooziness. As expected, instrumentally it’s lush but restrained and despite the synths and precise production, the overwhelming feeling is one of warmth. This is not a Grizzly Bear track under a different name however – though it is from the same animal family – ‘Believe’ is moodier and sexier, with clear R&B influences.
CANT’s Dreams Come True is released on September 12 and the track ‘Believe’ is released on September 26, but you can stream it below now.
