Listen: Cajsa Siik – “The Fix”
The latest understated gem to emerge from Sweden comes courtesy of Stockholm resident Cajsa Siik.
Reminiscent of Nile Rogers’ production work in the early 80s, “The Fix” is the perfect hybrid – playing with hollow disco beats and traditional blues/rock rhythms it finds itself in fairly unchartered territory – at least in terms of her recent Swedish contemporaries. There is no overt drama here, no pomp, no bluster; while staggered pop hooks and irresistibly smoky vocals tie everything together, there is no sense of that overblown in your face scandi-pop, which of course we also love, but it makes this a refreshing option.
Taken from her forthcoming second album “The Fix” (“a conversation I had with myself once, about freedom and escapism” according to the artist herself) is out now via 100 Songs.
