Listen: Branko – Rolling (feat. Zebra Katz)
Maybe people were too busy complaining about James Blake this week to notice, but for reasons unknown, it seems far too many people missed this fantastic new mixtape, Drums, Slums & Hums from Portuguese electronic dance music star, Branko.
But don’t take our word for it, Portuguese label, Enchufada made a list of “The Top 10 Reasons You Shouldn’t Miss Out On Branko’s Drums, Slums & Hums”, with reasons including the cool cover art, the return of spoken word, killer collabs, and the interesting little fact that,”The mixtape runs for 28 minutes and 28 seconds and it’s totally an Illuminati kind of thing.” Ok, we’re sold.
The Buraka Som Sistema founding member has collected a wildly exotic mix spanning his 10 year career as a producer (formerly known as J-Wow) of club music hits, including some oldies but goodies like ‘Going Hard’ featuring Dominique Young Unique’, hot new unreleased work, shout outs from Diplo and Brenmar, and a number of guest spots from Roses Gabor, Compadre, Ezekiel and Okmalumkoolkat. The clear standout guest for us being Zebra Katz, lending his dark, sultry raps to a bassy, latin beat, filled with off-the-wall samples.
Overall, Branko’s 30 minute mix flows seamlessly from track to track ensuring not a moment is lost and that the fun is at an all time high. Summer pool parties commence, your playlist is here.
