Listen: Blaenavon – Into The Night / Denim Patches
Pretty much seems that paradYse are on a mission to single-handedly reinvigorate the rather drab state of affairs that British guitar music has landed itself in these past couple of years. It’s only been 24 hours since we had the wind knocked out of us with the debut video from the wonderfully named Thumpers. Today, the Transgressive sister label debut their newest addition with two tracks from Blaenavon.
Hailing not from the small Welsh town of their namesake but the leafy suburbs of Hampshire, the trio – aged between 16 and 17 – make tightly wound, instantly accesible alt-pop that soars in all the right places. Massively intuative for such a young age, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re listening to a band three albums into their career. Oh, and there’s not a single navel gaze or reverb pedal in sight.
‘Into The Night’ comes backed with ‘Denim Patches’ and drops on a limited edition 7″ via paradYse on 11 March. The group will play London’s Buffalo Bar on Thursday 21 February.
