Listen: Best Friends – Happy Anniversary
Sheffield basement-pop band Best Friends are back to steal your hearts, and maybe the last few sips of your pint if you aren’t keeping an eye on it, with the first half of their dreamy new AA-side single, ‘Happy Anniversary’/‘Nosebleeds’.
The former kicks off with Lewis Sharman’s nostalgic drawls and a lithe guitar hook leading into thumping kicks and toms and a crunchier sections of riffing. The 90s wrestling fanatics have come along way from the grubby conditions in which their scratchy, scrawly guitar-pop was born, but their “fuck it, let’s play” aesthetic we first fell in love with is going nowhere fast.
‘Happy Anniversary’/‘Nosebleeds’ is out 23 September via Art Is Hard Records.
