Malmö producer Bam Spacey, aka Magnus Johansson, made his debut with an EP of the finest, most subtle Scandi-house (that’s a thing now okay?) quality in spring 2012. One year on from Land, Magnus is back with a new single, ‘River’, out 30 July on Ceremony, and confirmation of a second EP in the works.
Churning around and around like a helicopter rotor, the pumping bass which drives ‘River’ cuts through Magnus’ pawing vocal. The mood strikes a little less hopeful than material on Land, the gossamery marimbas and tufts of percussion traded in for dank, drooling synth and fractured beats. We can’t get enough of this leaner, meaner sound.
