While it may not hit as hard as ’212′, ‘Liquorice’ - the new offering from Azealia Banks - is equally beguiling, with her raps being just as lighting fast, profanity-fuelled and sex obsessed as the last time round: “I make hits motherfucker do you jiggle your dick?”
The backing track is courtesy of Manchester based beatmaker Lone, his track ‘Pineapple Crush’ acting as the bedding for Azealia’s wonderful filthiness. Its chilled, laid-back funky production is the perfect antidote to 212’s in-your-face aggressiveness. It’s also great to hear her show off her vocals more, the intoxicating chorus proving she can actually hold a tune. Consider the hype still justified. Now all we need from her is a classic debut full of tracks like these. Fingers crossed.
