Listen: Angus and Julia Stone - "Grizzly Bear" (Thom Alt-J Remix) [Premiere]
As well as being the drummer in one of today's most acclaimed British bands, Alt-J's Thom Green is also making a name for himself revamping tracks from the likes of Sivu, Grouplove and Moby. His latest effort comes in the form of a remix of "Grizzly Bear", from the Australian siblings Angus and Julia Stone. Hear it here first at Best Fit.
Like Alt-J, these charming Aussies seem to currently be in their peak, recently selling out every Australian show in their tour of their latest record, which itself debuted at number one in the Australian charts and likewise in New Zealand and France.
"Grizzly Bear", from the duo's third, self-titled album, saw a departure from the familiar folky tones that we first came to love the siblings for. It has much more of a 'band' feel to it, changing acoustics for electrics and brushes for sticks; a difference no doubt indicative of their collaboration with producer-titan Rick Rubin. As with the original, the Alt-J cut centres on the harmonised motif 'ba ba-ba ba ba', but instead of the gloomy-blues accompaniment, it drifts dreamily from reversed glitches and trembling synths to a chill, lounge-style electronica vibe. It is eerily beautiful, reflecting equal skill from both sides of this synergetic effort. Hear it below.
