A flutter of keys, a slow soft palpitation-inducing rhythm … 15 seconds in and we’re already in love with “Frid”, the latest track from Swedish born London resident Akiine.
To be honest though, having become instantly hooked on the calypso sways of previous number “Sunglassey”, we knew it would be like this. Akiine (full name Akiine Kivelä Ngarambe) has this wonderful knack of wrapping the listener around her little finger with minimal effort, opting instead for expertly chosen, subtle adornments that serve to embellish the emotions behind her sultry, gossamer vocals. If they’re enough for her, they’re more than enough for us.
