Adolescent offers up an affecting sonic experiment on "About Love"
"'About Love' was the very first song I wrote after beginning the drug Keppra, a time in which I hadn’t quite realised the effect it was having on my mood," says Alex Parish, the man behind the modern-classical experimental project Adolescent.
"This resulted in an often confused subject matter, and an erratic writing style, which inadvertently went on to become an ongoing musical theme throughout my next year of writing."
"About Love" is taken from Parish's forthcoming Mutter EP - his first physical release. The record was written while Parish was experiencing behavioural changes as result of Keppra, the anti-epilepsy drug.
The 25-year-old Parish began playing music under the Adolescent title five years ago, following a background as a teenager drummer in punk, hardcore and metal bands. Finding escape and inspiration in Portishead's Dummy, he began to explore electronic music and find his true sonic voice.
"Listening to 'About Love' makes me think of fear, anxiety, sadness, and anger," Parish tells us. "I’m sure the moods within the song are relatable to any listener, which in a sense makes it both the most abrasive, yet most accessible of the EP."
