Linn Koch-Emmery Mixes Melody and Fuzz On "Bby Nevermind"
While you don’t want to shoot several kilometres over the top and describe it as the great and holy return of Rock’n’Roll ™, really good guitar music has recarved itself a respectable place in the cultural scene over the last few years, with new waves of good bands popping up.
That’s a trend that is especially evident in Sweden, and with her work over the past year Linn Koch-Emmery has definitely placed herself in the conversation. She released her debut single, the dreamy, scuzzy indie track "Come Back" in summer 2016, and after a couple more singles has just dropped her debut EP, Boys.
"Bby Nevermind" is the opening song on that EP, and clocking in at just under two and a half minutes, it’s a perfect piece of vintage, short and sweet indie songwriting. Pitched between melancholic and nihilistic in its lyrical mood, it’s a rolling wave of aggressive, surfy guitars and smart, simple melodies. It’s well-crafted fuzz-rock, and that goes for the rest of the Boys EP too.
