LIA LIA conjures a storm on brooding new single "Night Call"
Across her social platforms LIA LIA states "I make music and slay demons" and with "Night Call" the innovative alt-pop enigma certainly does both.
Since the release of her debut single "OLYMP" back in 2017, the Berlin-based vocalist and songwriter has been experimenting with her sound track by track. From the dreamy ethereal "Kids" to last year's bombastic "Boba Boba", her new single "Night Call" invites you into a brooding world of loneliness.
Released with tastemaking label b4, "Night Call" marks the start of an exciting new chapter for LIA LIA as she twists and turns through a multitude of influences crafting her own melodic siren song. Mixed and mastered by Geoff Swan (Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, Ashnikko) her latest release is her strongest to date.
Ready to overcome her isolation, LIA LIA explains "the song is about feeling lonely and disconnected from the world, waiting for someone to come and rescue me from my boredom.” Capturing her escape with the track's music video it draws upon Chinese fairy tales and Japanese anime for inspiration as LIA LIA shifts into different characters.
In the video we see her become consumed by her anxiety and it's at this point she awakens Ryū, a water dragon spirit in human form who she battles. Proving herself to be a formidable foe LIA LIA takes control of the visual element of her project with the help of director Jannik Schneider.
As the leader of her own creative universe LIA LIA's slaying of demons is set to continue. While "Night Call" is her first release of the year, we're hoping to hear a lot more from this rising star before 2020 ends.
