LAOISE graduates from covers to her own songs with electropop debut "You"
Irish singer-songwriter LAOISE sparkles on debut “YOU”.
The Galway-based artist amassed fans sharing electropop covers and is now prepping the release of her debut EP Halfway, out in January.
Whilst “YOU” might be a glistening example of sparkling pop, its lyrics explore darker themes and begin to document a period of recovery which LAOISE will explore further on future releases. Inspired by greats such as Kate Bush and David Bowie, LAOISE started her musical journey learning violin, piano and guitar. It was on these unplugged instruments she first began to write her own songs, and has since graduated into the world of digital experimentation.
Working with Seán Bean, an old microphone and ancient laptop, in a spare room in his parents’ house LAOISE’s music came alive. LAOISE explains “the idea was to write a song restricted to only three chords to see how far I could take it and ended up loving its vocal melody and its lyrical content.” The track changed during the production process and it was at this point “it became the most suitable as an introduction to my new music and what it contains.”
A great taste of LAOISE’s work, “YOU” serves as a perfect introduction.
