It's all "Gravy" with Irish pop sensation LAOISE's disco-tinged new single
Rising singer/songwriter LAOISE's latest release is an infectious, feel good jam that will make you feel warm inside just like a steaming jug of Bisto.
The third track to be lifted from the Galway-born talent's forthcoming EP, "Gravy" is a song about falling hoplessly in love and actually having those feelings reciprocated. With its disco tinges, the funky track also replicates the serotonin buzz of being at a party, or in a club, with its bridge stripping things back and everyone's singing along.
Having previously written about unrequited love, LAOISE explains how she ended up wearing her heart on her sleeve with "Gravy". "I guess I used to think it was a little cheesy, but I think that was just an excuse to circumvent courage; it's so much easier to write a song about someone who's hurt you, because they've already hurt you," she says.
"It's harder to write a song about loving someone so much that they still have the power to hurt you. That's why it was so cathartic to give into that feeling and shout it out in the chorus anyway." It's actually quite emotional when you start thinking about the latest time you heard a room of people wrapped in the euphoria of screaming out loud to pop music.
Moving to an island off the coast of Ireland to make the Healthy EP which drops at the end of next month, LAOISE is hitting her stride again with more relatable pop goodness. She's found the process healing, escaping the city for a remote location with just long time collaborator Seán and the crashing waves as company, but ultimately hopes this music "can offer a similar sort of distraction for listeners."
"It's been a great way for me to continue looking inward and making music that marks exactly where I am in my life right now - which is a continuous venture towards trusting myself, being vulnerable with my words and healing," she admits.
