LANY embrace the inevitable end on album teaser "The Breakup"
"The Breakup" is the third taste of alternative pop band LANY's forthcoming self-titled debut album.
Last month the three-piece shared album closer "It Was Love" and spoke to us about LANY following their sold-out KOKO show. Both tracks were written around the same time and could've been part of the band's previously released collection, the kinda EP, but were instead held back for the record.
In the band's newsletter, frontman Paul Klein explains: "I hope it means something to you. I hope you dance to it. I hope you cry to it. Maybe you can dance and cry to it at the same time. Maybe it'll make you feel free... even for just a moment."
In essence "The Breakup" follows a similar formula as Lorde's "Green Light" in the way it also nods to Robyn's gargantuan floorfiller "Dancing On My Own". Melancholy and sadness set to uplifting carefree instrumentation, which for all intents and purposes ignores the heartbroken sentiment of the lyrics.
