Friends of Friends, the LA label who brought us Young Fathers and more recently, Perera Elsewhere, are maintaining their hot streak with the signature of Berlin via Adelaide producer,Kyson.
Clocking in at over six-minutes, Jian Kellett Liew’s latest sprawling cut off upcoming album, The Water’s Way is ‘How Long’ by name, and for some, by nature. Liew lets gently oscillating waves of synth do the talking, zoning in and out of earshot with his tidal cooing, ‘hold onto what you got’, while prickly snare snaps and the occasional brush of hi-hat comprise the steady, spartan beat. For a track with such grandiose ideas, ‘How Long’ is remarkably lean, and all the better for it.
The Water’s Way is out 24 September on Friends of Friends.
