King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard tumble into the unknown with new single "Trapdoor"
With their seventh album imminent, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's latest offering sees the band take a tumble into the unknown.
"I always wanted to be a band where you would expect the unexpected each time," frontman Stu Mackenzie says of the band's output, "with each album being treated like a different phase." Well worry not, as the unexpected is something this group have no trouble achieving.
Gearing up to release an album recorded with nothing but acoustic instruments, new single "Trapdoor" is three minutes of jazzy refrains, off-kilter flute, and eerie vocals. Soaring choruses spiral into gruff choruses, creating a sound that's as hypnotising as it is surprising.
Following the whimsical wonder of album title track "Paper Mâché Dream Balloon", this album looks set to be quite the ethereal venture.
Paper Mâché Dream Balloon is out on 3 November via ATO Records.
