Friends' Samantha Urbani pairs up with New Yorker Katie Rush
New York-based artist Katie Rush has apparently been sending her metaphysical groovy love throughout space with her EP Law of Attraction. If you're wondering who she is and what she is talking about, look no further, as there is currently no sign of her physical entity but only the presence of her mind-blowing tracks.
The artist has in fact produced and released the EP along with producers Sam Mehran and Zak Mering, and it has all been quite hush hush so far. Until now. Her second single, “Dangerous Luv”, has been unveiled to the public to enjoy in all its cosmic glory.
The hypnotic rhythm and pulsating, surging bass create the central pivot of the track, around which screeching, distorted guitars and laser sounds hover with piercing nervousness. Although the sound might initially remind the listener of some poppy, pink-lacquered 80s Jem and the Holograms tribute, it's actually more alike Depeche Mode’s mid-80s lyrical playful lustfulness and Duran Duran’s end of the 80s musical experimentation (see “All She Wants Is”).
Samantha Urbani’s – Friends' frontwoman - vocals on the second verse lend themselves perfectly as Rush’s sidekick in a collaboration that is somewhat a more raw, primal and grittier take on female-centred electronica à la Charli XCX.
