Southampton based indie-pop three piece Kafka Tamura set out to impress with their debut ‘Somewhere Else’; a catchy, stripped-down track, boasting the addictive voice of singer Emma Dawkins.
Whilst this one’s been about for a little while, their EP dropped just last week, and it remains, undoubtedly, the stand-out track.
There is a refreshingly simple nature to the layering, and Emma’s voice boasts slight old school Lily Allen elements in its genuine naturalness. With nothing too over the top here or unnecessary here, the song rides on the tone of her voice and grounded lyrics. Think London Grammar’s Hannah Reid but without quite so much extroverted, in-your-face emotion. Emma’s calm, controlled nature makes for an easier, less dramatic listen, which pays off in a big way on ‘Somewhere Else’.
